Treatment: Hair Transplant
What is Hair Transplant Surgery?
Hair Transplant Surgery was first introduced in Japan in the 1930s and in America in the 1950s and has been in Australia for decades.
How does Hair Transplant Surgery work for Hair Loss?
Traditionally Hair Transplant Surgery was done by the surgeon making one or two large incisions at the back of the clients scalp, then the strip of scalp with hair follicles was removed, then sliced up into smaller sections or “plugs” and then surgically placed in the areas of the scalp where the client was experiencing hair loss. More recently Hair Transplant Surgery has employed a technique called FUE or Follicle Unit Extraction, where follicles are removed and transplanted as individual units.
In Australia this surgery can cost from $11,000 to $18,000 but can be higher than this depending on the level of hair loss that is needing to be rectified.
What is the cost of Hair Transplant Surgery?
You really want to have a lot of discussions with a hair transplant provider before embarking on this kind of surgery.
It is costly and comes with risk so please do your homework and ask for client testimonials.
Hair Transplant Surgery is SURGERY, so my advice is to get a lot of different quotes, talk to the surgeon as well as the sales consultant and I’d also ask to speak to former clients from over 12 months ago who can tell you if their Hair Transplant Surgery has been successful or not.
Most Hair Transplant Surgery practices are run as quite lucrative businesses, where your appointments will be with a sales consultant and not with the person carrying out the surgery. These people are very well trained in upset techniques and unfortunately can be motivated in selling entire packages that include PRP, Hair Transplant Surgery and Scalp Micropigmentation and other add-on features to seperate a client from their money.
I have mixed feelings about Hair Transplant Surgery as a Hair Loss Solution, not because of any personal experience myself (I avoids any kind of surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary), but because I treat so many guys who’ve had Hair Transplant Surgery with the Scalp Micropigmentation procedure. Either they have terrible scars at the back of their head, of they have hair, but it is thin as they didn't have strong donor areas, and the FUE site has been thinned out and left a patten where the donor follicles were removed. So they have not only paid for the Hair Transplant Surgery but are also having to pay for Scalp Micropigmentation to disguise the scars or give the appearance of a thicker head of hair.
How effective is Hair Transplant Surgery as a Hair Loss Solution?
This form of Hair Transplant Surgery has left terrible scars and while it may have been a solution to filling in some hair loss areas, it left other issues that had a detrimental effect on the client and his appearance.
Hair Transplant Surgery has dramatically improved over the last few years, FUE is a great advance and leaves minimal scarring, but it really is up to the client to find the best surgeon available and to really know what you’re getting for your money.
FUE or Follicle Unit Extraction is a welcome advance in Hair Transplant Surgery
